Nancy Donahue's 3rd Grade Class at Tropical Elementary on Merritt Island, created an amazing project to support Florida Wildlife Hospital & Sanctuary, with goals based on the Florida third grade state standards: "Identify group and individual actions of citizens that demonstrate civility, cooperation, volunteerism, and other civic virtues."
The students chose the theme: Party For The Animals. They wrote persuasive letters and hand made invitations for their families and friends. In the back of the classroom was a bulletin board with a model of the hospital that demonstrated animal diets and care. Another bulletin board was dedicated to all of the research they had done on native Florida wildlife. At the end of the party, Mrs. Donahue asked the students if they and reached their goals and should they now raise the roof? Amid raised hands and gentle shouts of "Raise The Roof, Raise The Roof" the model roof was raised to reveal a colorful array of gift cards they had collected. All around the room were more items that they collected from the Animal Hospital's Amazon wish list.
part FWH sent volunteers Linda Archer and Josie Quiroz along with FWH
Ambassadors Corey, Owliver and Gonzo to celebrate and educate. The students were also awarded an official FWH Certificate of Awesomeness for all their efforts. This Fun-raiser event was definitely a success for everyone involved!
